Chris was admitted to practice as a barrister and solicitor in 1979 and became Acting Principal Legal Officer with the Tasmanian Office of the Commonwealth Deputy Crown Solicitor. He joined Simmons Wolfhagen in 1984, becoming a partner in 1988.

Chris practises predominantly in medical negligence litigation but also has a significant practice in public liability and general insurance claims. He also provides advice to a number of licensees under the Commonwealth Workers’ Compensation legislation.

Chris appears regularly as counsel in the Supreme Court of Tasmania, the Federal Court of Australia and the Commonwealth Administrative Appeals Tribunal. He is a barrister and solicitor in the Supreme Court of Tasmania and the High Court of Australia.

Chris has a keen interest in the regulation, education and development of the legal profession in Tasmania and Australia. He is a former president and councillor of the Law Society of Tasmania and until recently the Tasmanian director of the Law Council of Australia. He has also been the chair of two sections of the Law Council of Australia and is vice chairman of the Federal Litigation Section of the Law Council of Australia. He is also the chair of the Law Council of Australia’s Commonwealth Administrative Appeals Tribunal Liaison Committee.

In his spare time Chris enjoys travel, skiing and cruising the waters of Tasmania in his yacht Inca with family and friends.
